Best for
Executives and families whose year actually crosses borders — and anyone who wants the broadest direct-billing network in the market, including optional USA cover.
The trade
Premium pricing and a steep age curve buy network reach and strong high-cost claims handling. If your life is 90% Switzerland, you are buying reach you will rarely use.
Our read
One of the two or three names that belong on a mobile family’s shortlist. We model the premium at 55 and 65 before anyone signs at 38.
The profile
Headquarters: United Kingdom. Position: Premium full-service international cover with one of the broadest direct-settlement hospital networks.
Bupa Global sits at the top of the international private medical insurance market by reputation and by price. Its core promise is friction removal: a hospital network so broad, and direct-billing relationships so established, that a policyholder admitted in Singapore, São Paulo or Zürich rarely touches an invoice. For a genuinely mobile life — the executive whose year is split across three continents, the family with homes in two countries — that promise is worth real money.
The structure follows the standard international logic: a core inpatient layer, optional outpatient, dental and evacuation cover, and a decision on whether the United States is inside or outside your area of cover — the single choice that moves the premium most. Applications are medically underwritten: your health history is priced in, and conditions that already exist can be excluded or loaded. That is the fundamental difference from Swiss basic insurance, which must accept you as you are.
From a Swiss perspective the honest question is not whether Bupa Global is good — it is whether your life pattern justifies it. If you are settled in Switzerland and travel a few weeks a year, Swiss basic plus supplementary cover usually protects you better per franc. If your residence, work and family genuinely cross borders, this is one of the two or three names that belong on your shortlist.
One framing before the detail: international private medical insurance is a different instrument from Swiss health insurance. It is medically underwritten, priced by age and area of cover, and portable across borders — and for most Swiss residents it does not replace mandatory basic insurance (KVG). Where you stand on that map decides whether Bupa Global is even the right category for you. Our Swiss vs international guide covers the decision itself.
The plan architecture
Bupa Global's plans follow the classic full-service pattern: tiered packages that bundle inpatient care with progressively richer outpatient, evacuation, maternity and dental layers as you move up the range. The buying decision is less about assembling modules and more about choosing a tier — and then the two structural questions that dominate every international policy: which area of cover (the USA in or out), and which deductible.
The tiers matter because they gate benefits people assume are universal: outpatient limits, therapies, maternity waiting periods, dental ceilings. Reading the tier table against your family's realistic year of healthcare — not the marketing names — is where an advisor earns the fee the insurer pays them. We do that table-reading with you, in plain language.
When it matters
On claims and service, Bupa Global's reputation is strongest exactly where it should be: large, complex, multi-country claims — oncology pathways, major surgery, evacuation — where its direct-settlement network means the hospital bills the insurer, not you. Routine servicing is solid if less remarkable; turnaround on straightforward outpatient reimbursements is competent rather than class-leading. For the profile that buys Bupa, that trade is usually the right one.

Fit, not fashion
Our signature diagnostic
trap 01
The age-curve trap, international edition — international premiums are age-rated without the Swiss community-rating brake. The quote at 38 tells you little; we model the same cover at 55 and 65 before you commit.
trap 02
The 3-month deadline still applies — Bupa Global does not exempt a Swiss resident from mandatory basic insurance. If you are moving to Switzerland, the KVG registration clock runs regardless of what your international policy says.
trap 03
Coverage that pays vs. coverage that fights — the brochure promise and the claims reality can differ on any policy. Bupa Global’s claims record is one of its genuine strengths; we still read the exclusion list with you, because that is where disputes live.
trap 04
We match coverage to your life — if the honest read of your travel pattern says Swiss supplementary plus targeted travel cover, we say that, even when the international policy would be the larger mandate.
Before any recommendation
Plan names, limits and premiums change. We verify current terms against your situation before any recommendation — and we tell you when a Swiss setup or a different international insurer serves you better.

What clients say.
4.8 from 55 reviews on GoogleAfter several bad experiences with other brokers, working with Mr. Robert Kolar was a completely different experience.

Robert is the best person to partner with if you need to do difficult things such as relocate.

My session with Robert was one of the most efficient consultation sessions I'd ever had.

I was looking to change a supplementary insurance plan, and Robert guided me with professionalism and patience.
After returning to Switzerland from abroad, Robert was a tremendous help consulting me about all the changes.

Highly recommend consulting Expat Savvy before making any online insurance comparisons.

Working with Ben was great. Very prompt and responsive. Would highly recommend to anyone.
